Kilnbridge Gatwick Airport station | Platform 7 demolition

AWD was appointed by the client Kilnbridge to work alongside the main contractor Costain on this project which involved the demolition of platform 7 at Gatwick Airport Station.
The works were extensive and included canopy structures, lift buildings and a platform removal. This platform removal poses its own unique challenges, as it took place adjacent to a live rail track.

The project involved carrying out assessments of the extent of the demolition works and ascertaining the impact on adjacent rail lines. We also had to review the sequence of works for the demolition project.

The AWD team reviewed all of the method statements and sequence of works documents provided by the main contractor, Costain. This included providing a detailed commentary on the proposals as well as their impact on the existing rail infrastructure.

Due to the deadlines set within the project, it was vital that our teams were able to carry out our design checks to the programme deadlines to ensure the success of the project.
All works were carried out on time by our team of engineers and temporary works specialists. A full suite of approved material was also provided for Network Rail.
All in all, it was a pleasure to work with the main contractor Costain, as well as the client Kilnbridge on this project and we hope to work with both again in future.
