AWD Celebrates Living Wage Week

07.11.2017

This week at AWD, we are celebrating our first anniversary as an accredited living wage employer. Our celebrations also coincide with living wage week, and we are joining thousands of other businesses across the country in reaffirming our commitment to paying the living wage.

Living Wage Week

The living wage is a voluntary scheme, and the rate is calculated independently each year, with new rates being announced this week. It reflects the current cost of living, and recognises that young people have the same living costs as everyone else in the workforce, which is particularly important for our young graduates here at AWD.

At AWD, we believe that paying the living wage is vital to the success of our business. In rewarding our staff with a fair day’s pay for hard day’s work, we recognise the investment and commitment our employees give to our business, and we believe that all our employees should share in our collective success.

Managing Director, Malachy Ryan, said “We are delighted to celebrate our first year as an accredited living wage employer. At AWD, our values are central to everything we do, and investing in our staff is part of our culture here. When our staff are not worried about paying bills or paying back student debt, they are more productive and better engaged in their work. Being an accredited living wage employer makes a bold statement about who we are and what we stand for, and is just one of the ways in which we recognise the contribution of our staff.”

Office Manager, Emma McGrath, said “Receiving the living wage is part of a wider theme of employee recognition here at AWD, and as a mother with two young children it is a weight off my mind to know that I am guaranteed a fair wage for my dedication to my job. I work with engineers of all levels across the company and I can see that it makes a huge difference all our staff to know that they are valued and rewarded fairly for their work.”
