About Us

Alan White Design is an established engineering consultancy specialising in Access Engineering, Structural Design & Temporary Works.

In 2000 the Design Council awarded a Millennium Product award to the Technitruss access system which was designed by Alan White. The system is a modular re-configurable space frame specifically designed for access platforms. Millennium Products set out to find examples of the best in British design, creativity and innovation - and it came up with more than 1,000 products and services.

In 2011 AWD won the Institution of Structural Engineers Small Practice Award for the design of suspended access platforms on the West Gate Bridge. The judges were quoted as follows:

Millenium Products The Institution of Structural Engineers

"The West Gate Bridge Suspended Access Platforms represent an example of structural engineering design at its best. A clear understanding of the problem and its constraints, tackled by inventive and imaginative thinking, resulted in a practical, eminently workable solution, the cost of which is an order of magnitude lower than that of more conventional methods. This is a classical case which serves to demonstrate the immense value structural engineers can bring by adopting a well-informed and pragmatic approach to problem solving.
